Reconciling bank account

Post by Blessed_miracle67 »

We are in the process of converting to 11.5 and I'm practicing with the demo to see if I'm on the right track. My question is: If we have outstanding checks processed in Jan that has not cleared the bank yet, when we go to reconcile for Jan, if the "to balance" does not say 0.00, do we postpone, wait until the checks clear, then go back to the month of Jan and, clear them and click done?

If they have not cleared the bank by the time you received the Bank Statement, you only check off as reconciled those checks & deposits that have cleared the bank and are listed on the statement. If at that time, you still do not have a zero 'to balance', then there is something else wrong, as the system takes those unreconciled checks & deposits into account when the 'to balance' is calculated.

If the checks have not cleared yet, then do not mark them as cleared in the "Checks and other Subtractions" windows. Only mark the Deposits and the Cleared checks. Then if you entered the correct "Bank Statement Date" and the "Balance per Bank Statement" your "to balance" should be zero. If it is not, double check your entries to make sure you entered bank statement balances and only marked the cleared deposits and checks
