Void Year-Old Check...Ramifications?

Post by onemore4gsus »

I voided a check from 2013. How do I post the void? I posted in A/P but cannot in F/A.

Are there other ramifications I need to be aware of in posting such an old check, besides clearing it in next bank rec?

I appreciate your help. This forum is one reason I recommend PowerChurch to others.

You probably have that month closed in 2013. The advice from the user gurus here is not to close a month unless you really have to, for this reason. You have a check from a prior month, perhaps six months back, that has never been cashed and need to reissue. If you close the month you really can't void the check in the month it was created. Check to see if you have your Accounting preferences setup to give you 18 months open. If this was setup, then you could have the entire year of 2013 open along with YTD 2014. You wouldn't have to close Jan 2013 until you were ready to open July 2014.

In your case the only thing you can do is change the date of the unposted transaction sitting in Funds Accounting (I'm assuming its there) to an open month in 2013.

And yes, it will probably turn up as a void in the Deposits area of the reconciliation, and you should then check it off at that time.
