Help: Check entered twice
What do I do if I put a check in twice? How do I take one out?

First, a quick overview of the forums, since this is your first post here:dancarla08 wrote:What do I do if I put a check in twice? How do I take one out?
1. Each program area within Powerchurch has a corresponding forum here.
2. Its always a good thing to start a new topic in the corresponding forum for problems within Powerchurch. This gives us some idea of where you're having the problem, and people who are searching for similar answers can find them easily.
This is why you're original question was split from the original topic you posted in, as it had nothing to do with the original topic, and it was in the wrong forum.
Now, with all that said: since you originally put the question in the General Questions forum, I really didn't have any idea if you were having an issue with Contributions or Funds Accounting.
When I split the topic I selected Accounting, as it sounded like it could be an issue withing Accounts Payable. However, it could also be an issue with Contributions entry.
So. I'll give you both answers:
Contributions Entry - if you've not posted the Contributions yet, simply find the duplicate entry in the Modify Unposted Contributions function of Contributions, and delete that entry.
If you've already posted it, you'll have to go into View Posted Contributions and find the contributor whose check you entered twice. Locate the duplicate entries, select it, then click the Reverse Button located at the bottom of the function window. This will reverse the entry, and create a transaction. That transaction should be posted to update the Contributions database, and that action will create a transaction that is fed into Funds Accounting which will correct the checking and income account.
Accounts Payable - In this case, you'll have to VOID the check. The process works the same whether if the check was posted to paid items, or not. You have to void it so that the system will be properly updated with the correction. All this takes is going into Funds Accounting -> Accounts Payable -> Void a Check and entering the check number. Since it was entered twice (I'm assuming by manual check entry), both checks will appear. Select one to void. Then post AR to the paid items file. This action will create the proper transactions to correct all the entries.
Hope this helps.

Not to mention that posting in an old topic, tends to be the usual tactic of Forum Spammers, and such posts are usually eyed with suspicion
