Payroll taxes

Post by Greghc48 »

I started PowerChurch (as a trial for our church accounting system) set up for the month of August, starting with contributions and accounts payable. Those modules are working fine, and I will be working to set up payroll next. (I currently have version 10, but will be converting to version 11 this week).

My question for the forum is.... How do I account for my July withholding taxes (paid in August)... Assuming I need to do a manual transaction in Fund Acctg??

Thx in advance --- from a PowerChurch newbie with little Acctg experience - but learning.

FWIW .. I would not setup payroll in V10, as you're going to have to basically adjust everything for v11. Version 11 basically redid payroll, and you're going to have to to through the Conversion process to update the system. There's a video on this here:

I'd just do the setup in v11, as its much easier to do there.

As far as the taxes, you will need to enter a manual transaction. Also, for 2015, you'll probably have to manually create W2s, but once payroll is setup, 2016 should be a breeze.

Thanks for the video suggestion... I was thinking the same thing about 2015 vs 2016. I'm trying to get things rolling now with a target of Jan 1 for full up PowerChurch for all financial and payroll needs.

Will figure out the manual transaction for jury's payment in August. Assume that PowerChurch will do that for me for future months as I convert to version 11?

Once you have Payroll setup, the system will figure all taxes for you as long as you setup the taxes. There are examples of state tax setup in the website's Support area in the Knowledgebase area. Do a search on 'state tax' with your state (IE: State tax pennsylvania) and it should come up.
