fixing a payroll check
I have found an error I made posting payroll in August 2015 - I withheld the wrong amount for one employee's federal withholding. The check has been cashed. How can I go back and 'fix' payroll to reflect the new withholding amount and therefore get my 941 report to reflect the correct amounts?
Re: fixing a payroll check
Make an adjustment in the next check. What I've done in the past is create a special Pay Item that is setup like the normal FITW pay item, but make it a manual amount entry.shammer wrote:I have found an error I made posting payroll in August 2015 - I withheld the wrong amount for one employee's federal withholding. However, why is the withholding incorrect, wrong number of dependents ??

Re: fixing a payroll check
The withholding was wrong because the federal withholding box for the salary item got 'unclicked'
probably while trying to add a new item, I inadvertantly clicked it off. So I should just adjust the September check (which hasn't been cashed) with the amount that should have been withheld in August?

That will fix it for the system, and for the FITW you must pay to the US govt.shammer wrote:The withholding was wrong because the federal withholding box for the salary item got 'unclicked'probably while trying to add a new item, I inadvertantly clicked it off.
