have a person currently in one position that will begin in a new position next month. Should she be set up as a new employee rather than trying to change the current data. Thanks.

No need, plus if you do, the person will get two W-2s, they won't be merged.
All you need to do is adjust the salary or hourly wage, and maybe move her to another
pay group if necessary.

Neil, I now have a situation where a current employee will work part time and also draw retirement pay directly from the church. I will leave the earned income record as is just adjusting amount, etc. But won't I have to set up a separate record for the retirement so it can be printed on a 1099 separate from the pay on a W2. Again thanks for the help.

Since it is retirement, you WILL need to withhold Federal Income Tax, along with state tax if required. I'm not sure what else is required but I'd do some research at the IRS.gov website.

but what about the question as to whether I will need to set up a separate employee record for the retirement.

DOH

.. I had that in my original reply but did some editing and must have accidentally deleted that. Yes, you will need a separate record as all retirement pay, withheld taxes, etc must be kept separate for the 1099-R.
