Church Accounting Question

Post by sweettea »

I am putting our church system on the computer in powerchurch. The precious lady who did the accounting did it by hand and she does it this.... Contributions are either posted to tithes and offerings or misc. income.
At the end of the month, she make a journal entry to take it out of misc. income. and apply it the account it needs to go in such as youth, children, contingencies etc. I am wondering if anyone knows of a better way to do this in power church.

Thanks!

FWIW ... most churches have their funds go into Tithes and Offerings. The church board then sets a budget showing the amount each ministry should use.

I would not go by what was done previously. Tell us exactly how these 'other funds' were used. I would submit that what the previous accountant was doing exactly what setting a budget does.
