Making funds

Post by williams189 »

At this time I have everything under one Fund, which causes an issue when trying to transfer money. I would like to move our savings account to a new fund and other designated accounts. What is the best way to do this? Do I need to start the set-up over? How do I get the balances correct when moving to a different fund? Thanks for your time!

Um .. by 'transferring money' exactly what do you mean?

Normally if you're moving funds from checking to savings, its just a simple 'debit/credit' transaction.

Could you be more specific about what you are attempting, as that would help with advice.

OK. Forget the question about transferring. How would I change my set-up? I don't want everything under one Fund.

Simple .. go to Accounting -> Funds Accounting -> Setup -> Maintain List of Accounting Funds, click on the ADD button, enter a identifier for the new fund (01, BD, etc) and the name for the fund, then click on NEXT.

My suggestion is to use the default on the next screen, which is COPY from the existing fund. The next screen allows you to select what you want to copy. Copy the accounts you want, along with the GROUP accounts preceding it (labels such as ASSETS, BANK ACCOUNTS, SAVINGS ACCOUNT) and so on.

Once you do that make sure that Transfer accounts are turned on for all your funds, then follow the instructions in the manual or the PDF copy of the manual now included in the PCPLUS115 directory, for transferring funds between accounts.

No .. all it does is copy an account number and title. You will need to manually transfer any funds, using the transfer accounts as shown in the built-in help file, printed manual or PDF manual.
