Closing Months vs. Posting

Post by KarinK22 »

I get that I can have up to 18 months of Accounting OPEN -- but I'm trying to POST stuff for July, (our fiscal runs July - June) ... BUT it won't let me post July transactions. Memo pops up "No transactions found to post between the months of July 2016 and June 2017".
I also can't change the "working month" past our fiscal end.

BUT if I CLOSE July 2016 - it will let me close July 2017 ... is this correct?

The reason I ask - is that I'm trying to Reconcile my bank account - but can't do that until I actually POST July.

It sounds like you have it set to 12 months open at a time instead of the full 18. You can change this under File > Preferences > Accounting Setup Options. On the Fund Accounting tab, set the "Number of months that can be open at one time" to 18 and your problem should be solved.

To answer your question directly, yes, that is correct. You won't be able to post things outside of the range of open months, so closing an older month will move the range of open months forward by one.
