I'm trying to enter an invoice, part of which is a life insurance refund, but when I try to save it, I get a message that the debits and credits are out of balance with the amount. Here is an example of what I'm trying to do:
Check Amount: $1000.00
DR CR
Cash 1000
Health Ins 1200
Life Ins (refund) 200
Total 1200 1200
How should I enter this life insurance refund?
Thank you in advance!

I take it that the Life Insurance was overpaid, thus the refund?gloaming wrote:I'm trying to enter an invoice, part of which is a life insurance refund, but when I try to save it, I get a message that the debits and credits are out of balance with the amount. Are all the accounts listed are in the same accounting fund, and that you expense the insurance directly from the expense account, not using liability accounts as normally setup for such employer (or employee authorized deduction) payments under payroll?
With those answers, I can give you some additional ideas.
I'm also going to assume that the refund is already reflected in the invoice that you have received, right?
