Pastor W2 Not Showing Wages

Post by greenhillpc »

I am trying to process the tax forms for the end of the year. For some reason the Pastor is not being counted in the wages total, and his W2 does not show his wages. I was able to print everyone else's W2s without a problem, but I had to add the wages on to his W2 using a typewriter, and I had to re-create the W3 (with the correct wages total) with a typewriter.

I suspect when the Pastor was originally put in the system that something was listed incorrectly, but I have no idea what setting to change. We do not take taxes out for him, but we still need to count his wages in the total. The person who entered him in the system is deceased, so I don't have anyone to ask.

Any ideas on how to fix this so I won't have to go through this mess next year?

Thank you.

What you need to do is on the pastor salary Item Description, you should see the drop down next to TAX OPTIONS. Open the drop down and find the More Options selection. Choose that, and you'll then see a list of all the tax types you have setup in the system. Select the Federal Withholding checkbox ONLY. If the pastor has to file State and Local income taxes, you may want to check that too.

What this will do is show the total gross salary in the proper boxes. Since (I'm assuming) that the pastor does not have any Tax Pay Items listed on the Maintain list of employees Pay Item tab, nothing will be deducted.

Also, if you're paying the Pastor a Housing Allowance, you should have that Item Description's checkbox for HOUSING ALLOWANCE checked, as it will properly add that amount to Box 14, and list it as Housing Allowance.

Does this help?

Thank you. I will give that a shot. I was able to enter the Housing and Soc Sec in that box. I just couldn't get the wages to work. :)

If you change those settings, then run another set of W2s using the 'recalculate' option you'll see when you get the W2 review screen that the wages will now be in the right place.
