Moving existing fund to a new group

Hello! I'm not much of a "board" person so I did some searching but my question is pretty specific.

We have an existing fund/expense/income account set up for a specific church plant. We want to retroactively create a "church plant" group and move the aforementioned set of accounts into the group. We are set up with a general (01) and designated (02) fund. Both are affected by this change on the chart of accounts.

I figured out the add account (even creating the new group) - but do I need to create a new group for each occurence? And how do I move the existing accounts under the groups?

Thank you for the help!

OK .. you didn't give account number examples, so I'm going to assume this:

1. You have a set of existing accounts, income (4000) level, and expense account (5000) level in both Accounting Fund 01 and Accounting Fund 02. I'm going to assume that in the 01 Accounting Fund, you have the 4000 level income going to the standard 01-3110-000 unrestricted net assets accounts. I'm also going to assume that in the 02 Accounting Fund you have the restricted funds going to specific restricted 3000-series net asset accounts.

2. You want to take these various accounts and put them under a specific GROUP ITEM in each area.

For example if the current income account is 01-4050-000 CP TITHES, under general tithes and offerings, you want to create a group account under income for the church plant say 01-4400-00 CHURCH PLANT, and then move 01-4050-000 to 01-4410-000 CP TITHES.

Same with the 02 Designated Accounting Fund - you have an 02-3250-000 CP Designation, and you want to create a group account under the Net Assets to group these together.

The way to do this is the same:

a) Create the new group under the account number you wish to use in the Chart of Accounts.
As I used above the group is 01-4400-000 CHURCH PLANT.

b) Move the account under the group:
You would then find the 01-4050-000 in the chart of accounts and CHANGE the number listed there to 01-4410-000 and modify the Description if you need to. This will move all information (and update previous transactions) to reflect the new number.

You would do this for the net assets, expenses, etc. Anything you would want to group under a new GROUP in the chart of accounts.

Does this help ??
