We've never used the payroll module and would like to start doing so. A previous user made a half-hearted attempt to set it up, but nothing ever came of it. I'd like to wipe the module clean so that I can default to New Payroll Setup and go through the process from scratch. Any way to do that in one fell swoop, or do I need to go in and delete each item manually? Again, the module was never used but there is data entered. Thanks!

There is a Restart Payroll button that can be found under File > Preferences > Accounting Setup on the Payroll tab. That shows a big warning on the screen, explaining what will and will not be deleted in the process.

It is a good idea to make a backup before going through this process! You can do this by going to Utilities > Backup & Restore.
