Tax Receiptable/Non Tax Receiptable Contributions

Post by DavmacMECO »

Our organization is new to PowerChurch. We currently operate with four accounting funds and four corresponding contribution funds. Some of our members provide both tax receiptable and non tax receiptable donations. Short of setting up an envelope number for a receiptable donation and one for a non receiptable donation is there a more efficient way in PowerChurch to set this up using one envelope number per member that would issue a tax receipt for the tax receiptable donation only.

There is a checkbox labeled "Include fund on statements" on the Maintain List of Contribution Funds screen found under Contributions > Setup. For those things that you don't want included on receipts, uncheck that box.

Thanks Zorak. As it appears that each Contribution Fund can only debit one bank and income account for each Accounting Fund I would need to set up a Non Receiptable Contribution Fund for each applicable Accounting Fund. Is that correct?

You would at least need one Contribution Fund for each thing you want people to be able to donate to. It isn't necessary to have one Contribution Fund per Accounting Fund.

To expand on what Zorak said.

Many churches have multiple Contribution Funds setup to debit one checking account, say in Operations Fund, but credit multiple INCOME accounts in the one fund.

For instance.

Our operations fund has one checking account, but a few INCOME accounts such as Tithes & Offerings, Bible Study Materials, Special Collections. Each one of those has a Contribution fund that debits the Operations checking account, and credits an associated income account.

Then we have Contribution Funds that credit LIABILITY accounts for the denomination's Annual Offerings. This goes to liability as the funds are not income to the church, but the church is required to pass them on to the denomination. Basically, a pass-thru.

Does this help?
