After downloading latest maint release, I am getting the following error message when trying to print checks through accounts payable
Error 1903:
Message: String is too long to fit

I turned printer off and back on but no fix. Any thoughts?

You didn't say which version you were using. However, try this: do a RESTART of the computer, then try again. If that doesn't work, are you using a custom check layout?

I do mean a RESTART ... as in Windows 10, Microsoft changed the 'reboot' to actually be a hibernation to enable their 'fast boot' and uses all the settings/memory currently in place. A RESTART clears the system and boots directly from disk files.

Did a RESTART of the PC. Same error message

PROGRAM: HASTRACTORFEEDPRINTER
Line: 6494
ERROR: 1903
MESSAGE: String is too long to fit.

OK ... having the full error message helped as someone else had the same type of issue earlier this week.
1st check to make sure that the checks being used have not changed to a 'tractor feed' type of check in Powerchurch. If that's not the case, then what the other person did was:

1. Close Powerchurch
2. In Windows DELETE then REINSTALL the printer drivers.

This fixed the issue for him. Please let us know if this worked.

We have seen this happen with a certain printer giving some unexpected response to a query that the software is doing. There is a fix coming for this in the next Maintenance Release for Versions 12 and 14. Those MRs are waiting for the e-file service to be updated for 2022 filing of the 941. We are hoping to be able to get them published next week.

In the meantime, if you have access to Utilities > Database Manager, there is a command that you can run that disables the check for tractor feed printers and will allow you to get back to printing uninterrupted. The command to run is as follows:

Code: Select all

SETTRACTORFEED(.T.)
Just copy and paste that into the Command window and hit Enter or click Run Command.

Thanks. I will try the database manager route tonight. Deleting and reinstalling printer drivers did NOT work. Appreciate this new option. I will let you know.

The coding change worked for the printer! Thanks so much!
