We have several old funds that are no longer used. The funds report shows zero begining balance, (since we first started using version 9) and zero ending balance as of june 06, the end of our accounting year.
I cannot find any transactions in those funds during that period, yet when I try to delete the fund I receive the warning "Posted transactions exist for accounts in this fund. This fund cannot be deleted." How can I delete this fund?

Even if you had no activity in the accounts you want to delete during the period you looked at, if you have ever had any transactions in that account and have not deleted the data (using delete old data on the fund accouting menu), PC will not allow you to delete the account. If you do this, be sure to make a backup of your data prior to deleting.

Deleting unused funds
I'm trying to delete individual funds, not accounts. Using the Delete funds the way you suggest would wipe out all funds, and restoring the backup would restore all of the funds, including the ones i want to delete.
Some of the funds had one or two accounts assigned to them, but there was never any action in those accounts. I'm going to try to delete those accounts, then try deleting the funds again.

Things that may keep you from being able to delete accounts or funds are:
Posted / Unposted Transactions
Beginning Balances
Account Dependencies (Contributions, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll)
"Close To" Dependencies (if trying to delete an Equity account)
I would suggest running the Account Dependencies report and Account Close To reports in Fund Accounting.
I agree with beas, that if you are going to Delete Old Data, you should make a backup of your Accounting data first.
