We need to add a "close to" account to one of our equity accounts. During the initial setup the income account was added but the expense account was not

Um .. the equity account IS the close to account. I believe what you mean is that you need to add the "Close to" account to the expense account.

Normally, they default to the 01-3110-000 Fund Balance Account, however that can be changed on the expense account by heading to
Accounting -> Fund Accounting -> Setup -> Maintain Chart of Accounts

Find the expense account in question, then click on DETAILS. On the Details Account tab, you will see the area headed Account information specific to this fund there you'll see the closing equity (fund balance) account listed. Click on the magnifying glass to select a different equity (fund balance) account.
