I upgraded from v8.5 to v10.
After the upgrade, I tried to make a post to Fund Accounting. I was told that my accounts are in the wrong category.
Any advice is apprectiated.

Sounds like you may have some accounts in your chart of accounts that are not numbered in sync with the account number ranges set up in the Accounting Setup Options. Go to File, Preferences, Accounting Setup, and then click on the Fund Accounting tab. Compare these account number ranges with your chart of accounts and make sure that the account number ranges for the different categories (Assets, Liabilities, etc) and the way you have the account numbers set up on your chart of accounts are in sync.

Version 8.5 will not allow you to add a new account in the wrong number range. It will, however, allow you to change your assigned number ranges after the fact, thus leaving accounts outside of the assigned ranges. Versions 9 and 10 work the same.
If you have changed the number ranges, you can either change them back to accommodate the accounts that you have set up, or use the Maintain Chart of Accounts screen to move accounts into the proper ranges.

Accounts in the wrong category are accounts that are numbered outside of the defined ranges of accounts. As an example, an Asset account with the number 2150-000 would be outside of the defined range of 1000-1999 for Assets.
Take a look at a Chart of Accounts report and scan down through the far right column, where the category is listed.

Aha ... so all I have to do is adjust the account numbers in the Fund Accounting preferences.Zorak wrote:Accounts in the wrong category are accounts that are numbered outside of the defined ranges of accounts.
