Is there a way I can manually release restricted funds via a journal entry. I know how to do it the correct way, but I need to make some adjusting entries.

Do I debit the restricted fund and credit the unrestricted net assets?

If you have been using the release restricted funds assistant, you can use it to also manually release restricted funds. Just go to enter transactions in Fund Accounting and click the release button. The transaction created is a balanced transaction and will post.

You could directly debit the restricted fund and credit the unrestricted, but by doing so you bypass the income statement and you won't show the reduction of restriced amounts there.
