I use "efilemyforms" to process our w2 forms. I get an error or recommendation message on each one questioning the SS and Medicare deductions. Any idea why they are questioning the deduction amounts?
I can't seem to attach the screen shot but the message reads:
"Box 4 should be 6.2% of Box 3 + Box 7"
"Box 6 is outside acceptable range of 1.45% to 2.34% of Box 5"

Evidently that system is telling you that you have either not deducted enough or deducted too much. The Medicare & SS tax tables are fixed percentage tax tables, SS: 6.2% for employee and employer, and Medicare at 1.450% for the employee. If you're letting the system do the tax calculations, you shouldn't have an issue.Buffalofoodshelf1 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 20, 2024 1:16 pmI use "efilemyforms" to process our w2 forms. I would definitely take a look at those tax tables to see if they're correct, along with the reported SS and Medicare Wages. I'd do a quick check with a calculator by multiplying the SS Wages by 6.2% to see what you get as the proper withholding amount. Same with the Medicare using 1.450%.
If they are correct, I'd contact that company's customer support, as Powerchurch only interface directly with its tax file Partner Service.
I don't know how many employees you have, but I had up to 6 and just used the Social Security online W-2 entry system.

Thanks for the response.
Payroll set up is correct with 1.45% Medicare and 6.2% SS
Example -
Wages $11,495.25 X 6.2% = $712.69 - PCPlus calculation is $712.76
Wages $11,495.25 X 1.45% = $166.68 - PCPlus calculation is $166.72
Wages $11,397 X 6.2% = $706.62 - PCPlus calculation is $706.57
Wages $11,397 X 1.45% = $165.26 - PCPlus calculation is $165.30
Wages $6,877.50 X 6.2% = $426.40 - PCPlus calculation is $426.46
Wages $6,877.50 X 1.45% = $99.72 - PCPlus calculation is $99.68
Payroll set up is correct with 1.45% Medicare and 6.2% SS

Wages $6,877.50 X 6.2% = $426.40 - PCPlus calculation is $426.46
Wages $6,877.50 X 1.45% = $99.72 - PCPlus calculation is $99.68

Why are the PowerChurch Plus calculations are off?
Re: Payroll - W2 Processing
They're not ... if these are hourly wages, the amounts are adjusted for the actual wages paid in the payroll check.Buffalofoodshelf1 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 21, 2024 12:03 amWhy are the PowerChurch Plus calculations are off?
If they were not being calculated properly we'd have been told about it long ago as this is a very standard calculation. If you've been using the 941 form from Powerchurch to report withholding, these are the amounts that have been reported. Again, its not a Powerchurch issue.
