Opening up a closed month/year using database manager

I am currently using version 9. A few years ago I had a similar problem, and was guided by a tech on the phone, through the procedure on how to go about doing this. I lost my notes on it, and now I need to do it again. I need to change/add a year end entry to Dec 2007, which is closed, in order to correct a starting balance in 2008.

I know the file to open is fainfo then select by row; select falastclosedmonth or falastclosedyear. Highlight value (memo)---and then what? I forgot the rest.

I have used database manager many times before, I am very careful using it, since I know the dangers and pitfalls.

PS Also is there a list of valid commands for database manager that I can get somewhere?

FWIW ... using the Database Manager is one of those things that is best done when guided by tech support on the phone. It is very powerful, and has the potential to mess up your data.

This is one of the reasons database manager commands are not normally discussed on the open forum. Inexperienced users may try to do something that they think will fix a problem, but due to the programmatic data verifications could mess up the relationships between tables and thus the data.

I think it would be best to call tech support again.

Thanks! Couldn't agree with you more. I have been a Powerchurch user since the early 90's, and I am quite familiar with how the PC database works and the dangers of using database manager without knowing how it works and what it does. As a long time computer geek I have found out that the first most important step in any computer procedure is backing up the entire database or program, before attempting to make any changes.
