Duplicate Entry-Transfer Accounts

Post by fbcacctg »

Hi,

I was in the process of changing and adding some transfer accounts. Suddenly, one of my existing transfer accounts now shows duplicate entries for the last three years. I did not use or make any entries to this account in 2008, but now the system has created duplicate entries from past years that now throws off my balance sheet from 2005 until now.

Any idea on what PCP did? All I was doing was changing the account number and adding the account to the appropriate fund. I was not making any entries at all. I did notice that when I was trying to add this account to my 'general fund', I noticed that the general fund was showing up twice for this account.
I suppose I can go back and restore a backup from before I started making any changes.
Thanks.

You have to be very, very careful when making the types of changes you describe so that you don't end up inadvertantly combining accounts that need to remain separate. It sounds like this may have been what happened. Without seeing your actual records it is diffficult to say exactly what caused the problem but I am pretty sure it wasn't a problem with PCP. You may be able to figure out what happened by carefully reviewing and analyzing the Accounting Audit Log entries, as each time you make a change to an account number or title the system records the change.
