Once again I turn to my friends at POWERchurch for an answer that I don't have.

In a nutshell:

Fund(04) - Sister's In Christ
is being renamed
Fund(04) - Women's Ministries

Sister's-In-Christ has a checking account tied to it that was CLOSED today.
Women's Ministries had a NEW checking account OPENED today which is tied to this name change.

I would prefer that I did not have to create a new FUND for this change, but simply change the Fund name and attach a new checking account to the new name, picking up on the next check number in the sequence (if the bank will allow that). There was a direct roll-over of the funds from the closed account to the new account.

Is the the correct way to handle this?

Two ways to play. First, creating a new account (which is what I would do just to keep things neat)

The transfer is simply
DB 04-1115-000 new checking $ending amount
CR 04-1110-000 old checking $ending amount

As far as starting with a continuation of the check numbers, that is not a problem. Just type it in when you print your checks.

Second, if you keep the same account, you will have a continuous record of all the checks plus the new checking account in the reconciliation window. Presumably, all the old checks have cleared since you have closed the old account.

That is the only benefit I see to keeping the same account number.
