Transaction Posting month and year wrong

Post by Blessed »

I am fairly new to Power Church especially the Fund Accounting side. I am using 10.5 version with Windows XP. I entered a great number of general entries under the month August 2008, that should have been entered in 2009 (I forgot to change the default month and year). However, the posting date is correct with the correct year (ie..02/15/2009). When I reconciled the checking account after posting these entries, the credits and debits were there and the account was reconciled. I did notice that if I needed to correct an entry (reverse and entry) I had to change my working month to August 2008 to see the transaction under view posted transactions. When I corrected it and changed the posting date the transaction shows up in the month that the transaction actually occured. My question is how would this affect my reports if I left it this way? Or is there a way to fix this without reversing all transactions (50+)in order to change the posting month and year?

I'm pretty sure you don't want to leave it.

Here's how I am understanding your situation: You made a transaction that was dated 2/19/2009 (and other transactions in the 2009's) and posted them in August 2008.

The only way you're going to see them on your reports is to change the month and year for your reports to August 2008. If you select to run a report in February 2009, for example, I'm pretty sure it won't show up.

Even though you entered the date of the transaction to be 2/19/2009, the posting date is more crucial, so to speak.

How to correct this? It's going to take a little work. Once you post a transaction, it's permanent. You will have to reverse and reenter 50+ transactions.

I can offer one shortcut. Go to Fund Accounting, View Posted Transactions. Locate each transaction in the window, and at the bottom, click "Reverse". In fact, you can use the filter to select only those transactions with a posting date of August 2008, and then Reverse them all!

At least you won't have to type all the reverse entries in, one-at-a-time. Then post all the reverse entries in the same wrong month / year as the original entries. (August 2008, I presume).

Then make all your correct entries by entering them one-at-a-time.

Unless someone sees an easier way, this is the best I can do.

Thanks so much John. It's a tough way to learn, but I did the work and it turned out fine. I'll be searching the sight for more answers and helps. Again, thank you for being there.
