Throughout the coming year, we will be having regular collections for contributions that will be passed through to another institution. When the money is contributed, it is recorded under the contributor's envelope number. How do I go about insuring the amounts are posted to the correct accounts? I set up a special Offerings Pass Thru 2xxx liability account, but am unsure as to how to post to it. Once the contributions are posted, do I have to make additional postings through the accounting module?
As you can probably tell, I'm still a newbie. I've been trying to set up the accounting module (the previous treasurer used the contributions module exclusively). Please help, I'm so-o-o-o-o confused.

Re: Posting Pass Through contributions
When you receive the money in contribution fund 110, for example:
Contribution Fund 110
DB 01-1110-000 general checking
CR 01-2015-000 pass through liability
When you cut the check for the pass-through amount:
CR 01-1110-000 general checking
DB 01-2015-000 pass through liability
That's all there is to it!

Re: Posting Pass Through contributions
One additional thing, you did not list whether you're creating a special Contribution Module fund for this passthru money. You should do that, then tie it to the two Funds Accounting accounts listed by John.

Re: Posting Pass Through contributions
I did, in fact, create a contribution module fund for the pass thru contribution, so I was on the right track. But just didn't quite trust my judgment!
