Several months ago I became aware that 2010 will be a "Pay Period Leap Year" for those of us who pay every other Friday. This will cause us to issue 27 paychecks instead of 26 next year.
I was just entering my 2010 payroll data. I entered the employee amounts, rounded off to whole dollars, in the Chart Of Accounts with 3 checks for Jan-July & Dec.
In Maintain List of Employees-Payroll Information, I entered their 2010 yearly budget...rounded off to whole dollars.
When I pull up Maintain Employee Pay Items, the "earns per pay period" is giving the total for 26 pay periods, not 27, and it's not rounded off; but when you look down at the item name it's a different amount & is rounded off. All my tax tables are checked to round off.
Do I need to go in to Maintain Employee Pay Items and enter the correct amount manually....and will I have to remember to do this every payday?
Thank you

Re: Pay Period Leap Year
It appears there needs to be a choice in the software for biweekly 26 weeks or biweekly 27 weeks.
There never is a 25 week year, so it isn't a timing issue. There really is a "longer" year every 11 years, I guess, where you need to figure in an extra paycheck.
Here's a bad idea. Pay everyone 26 times. The last time will be 12/17/2010. The next paycheck will be Jan 14, 2011. Really bad idea. I can't think of any other "automatic" solution.

Re: Pay Period Leap Year
If you are referring to the amounts shown at the top of the screen, under the employee name and number, it doesn't have any bearing on the actual check amounts. This is pulled from the Maintain List of Employees screen, from their annual or hourly salary amount. It's only for quick reference.
In version 11, which has a completely rewritten Payroll module, this field and display is going away.

Zorak~Yes, that is one of the fields I was talking about.
John~Yes, that's not the best idea, but thanks for the suggestion.
I only have a few employees, I'll just enter it manually next year; like I have always done the part-time employees. It's not that big of an issue for me.
Happy New Year

Re: Pay Period Leap Year
If you are not a member of the Yahoo ChurchAdmin group, you might want to consider joining. They recently had a big discussion on this specific topic. The URL of group is: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/churchadmin/
This group is not specific to using PowerChurch or any particular software, but is for the problems and issues that all church administrators face. It is a pretty active group so you will receive many message. I setup my preferences to just receive the digest and still receive 1 or 2 e-mail messages a day.

Re: Pay Period Leap Year
Kristi,
All you need to do is take the annual salary and divide it by 27 and enter that number into whatever the salary line is on the Maintain Employee Pay Items window. When in that window double click on the line for the salary and a Change Item window will open. Select Salary and enter the number you came up with there and select save. You will not have to do anything further for each subsequent check since this value will be saved in the employees Pay Items List. This amount will not change until you go in and change it.
hope this helps.
