Correcting Bank Account Balance At Year End

Post by Svenska »

We have been using PC+11 parallel to our legacy system for a part of CY2010. This way, PC+ has been our learning tool while keeping accurate accounts in the legacy system. Users, including myself, have made their share of errors which we tried to correct as we went along so at years end, the various accounting modules agreed with each other – except for the checking account. For this particular fund, the 31 December Balance Sheet shows the correct checking account balance of -164.16. However, the Reconciliation page tells a different story:
Bank statement balance: 8,787.40
24 Outstanding checks 9,302.61
0 Outstanding deposits 0.00
Adjusted bank balance -515.21
Checking Acct balance -384.12
To balance 131.09

Now that staff members are reasonably comfortable in using PC+11 I need them to stop using the legacy system as of 1 Jan 2011, however, this disconnect between the true checking acct balance of -164.16 and the numbers in the reconciliation is a concern. Over the past 2-3 weeks we have not been able to find errors and/or correct this. What kind of year end correcting entry can we make to clean this up so we can officially use PC+ for 2011?

This thread may help you out. It has some advice on how to find the error, but also gives you a suggested transaction to enter to fix the issue if nothing is found:
