What are "Direct transactions" on the Accounting Fund Balances Report

I have non-zero values showing up in the "Direct Transactions" column of the Accounting Fund Balances report. How can I find the actual transactions that caused these values to appear so that I can figure out why they occurred?

These are usually manually created transactions applied directly to the Fund Balance account.
