Restricted account incorrect negative balance

Post by randomrachel »

I'm using Windows 10 / Power Church 14.4 - last month someone donated $1,000 for a building project, so I deposited it into the restricted misc. fund and released it on a check to pay for the project.

My misc restricted fund now has a negative $660.00 balance. When I look at the account activity for the month I see

01-4210-000 Misc Income Rest - Contributions 5/25/25 $1,000 with the account balance showing the $1000 increase (was previously $85 in there, which has also been paid out at the end of May)

and also

01-4810-000 Misc Restricted - 5/28/25 Check 44747 company name - release restricted amount $1,000 with the account balance showing -$1,000

Why would it be -$660 on the balance sheet? If it was off shouldn't it be off the full $1000?

I don't have any problem with the other restricted funds setup under our account.

Thank you!!

My guess is the expense account is also "closing to" that restricted equity account. Restricted income and the Release should close to the restricted equity. Expenses close to unrestricted.

Take a look on the Maintain Chart of Accounts screen in Accounting > Fund Accounting > Setup. Use the Locate button to bring up the expense account in question, then click the Details button. Verify "At the end of the year, this account closes to:" is set to unrestricted equity (AKA fund balance/net assets) 3001 or 3110.

Thank you!
The non budget expense and the non budget release both do go to the 3110 account. But the equity account doesn't have that option, it has "Temporarily Restricted" in that box. The income account closes to 3250.

I did find the "Monthly Balance Activity" and it had a balance of $340 which wasn't showing up on the balance sheet, which makes the -$660 total make sense, although idk where that came from or why it isn't adding the $1000 I deposited into it.
