Possible error in Screen Report for Payroll Item Summary

Post by James Jernigan »

I print a Payroll Item Summary Report each month to use in preparing my 941 tax withholding deposit and quarterly reports. I noticed that after I upgraded to v9 with MR 11-2-04 that on the screen report, the "Employee Number" field is showing "####" for one of the employees that has a 4 digit employee number. All the rest of the employees have 3 digit employee numbers and their employee numbers show up okay on the screen report. When I print out the report on the printer, the 4 digit employee number prints okay. I am assuming from past experience with FoxPro that the report field for the screen report is too narrow for the 4 digit employee number and the "####" indicates an overflow of the report field. Has anyone else noticed this or anything similar to it? Not a big problem, but might need to be put on a "to do" list for a MR later if it truly is an error on the screen report.

Thanks,
James E. Jernigan

Check to make sure you don't have large fonts enabled in Windows. That'll cause a problem like this, as well as many other weird little things that are seemingly inexplicable.

If you're using a Theme with large fonts, that'll do it too.

more info after additional testing ...

I verified that I am getting the screen preview field overflow on 2 different Dell computers running totally different hardware (graphics, monitors, cpus, etc.). Fonts are set to "normal" size through properties for desktop display. I also went back to version 8.5 that is still installed on the computer in another subdirectory and ran the same report for the same data and v8.5 displays the 4 digit employee number okay.... Both machines tested are running WinXP Pro SP2 and running "Dell" theme that came with the computers. No change in any of this except upgrading from v8.5 to v9 software with MR 11-2-04 ... Default printer for each machine tested is HP 1100 LaserJet printer. Would v9 possibly be using a different general font than version 8.5 or maybe a different printer font? I have sometimes seen strange things happen when the computer can't exactly match the display font to the printer font.
