negative signs in the Statement of Activities report

Post by lrlaggos »

Hi,

I wanted to verify that the negative signs in front of figures in reports like the Statement of Activities indicates withdrawn funds? I ask only because I am accustomed to seeing the negative signs after figures to show withdrawn funds.....

Just checking,

Thanks!
Linda

Most numbers should be positive. Negative numbers are rare.

Are you seeing them in many accounts? If so, are you seeing them in Income and in Expenses?

John is correct here. Negative numbers are unusual and do not necessarily mean withdrawn funds and yes the negative sign is placed in front of the number in the reports not after. If they are in the income portion of the report, which I would find to be highly unusual, it would indicate a decrease in income. If they are in the expense portion of the report, which could be a little more common, it would indicate a decrease in that expense item. This would mean you are putting money back into the expense line item rather than spending money form it. The only place I would find it more common to see negative numbers in the report would be at the bottom where it shows the change in balance. If your expenses are greater than your income this number would have a minus sign in front of it or a parenthesis around it, depending on what you have chosen in your setup options.
