Contributions into Benevolence fund

We have a separate checking account for Benevolence fund in which I don't want to include with our general fund. We have contributors that pay into the fund so I would want their donation to show on their contribution statement. Would I open another power church fund using 02 Benevolence? When donations are on the envelopes for benevolence can I still look-up that number when entering contributions to make deposits, so it will not show in my general fund acct.?

This question may have also have been asked in the Contributions forum where others may be searching for similar questions. (that is just for future reference).

I think I know what you are asking, so I will answer it as I interpret it.

If someone gives $150, and $100 of it is General tithes and $50 is Benevolence, then you create the following Contribution Funds in Contributions:

Fund 100 General Tithes
DB 01-1110-000 checking
CR 01-4010-000 General Tithes

Fund 201 Benevolence
DB 02-1120-000 Benevolence checking
CR 02-4120-000 Benevolence income

To Enter the $150 contribution for envelope number 301:
Env: 301
Fund: 100
Amount: $100

Env:301
Fund:201
Amount:$50

When you post in Fund Accounting, you will get two transactions, corresponding to the correct checking accounts.

Just to reinforce what John is saying.

The funds he is talking about (100, 201) are Contributions Funds.

In Johns example, you have separate Accounting Funds in the Funds Accounting area, which then keeps the income and expenses for your benevolence fund in a separate set of accounts and reports.

Thus 01-1110-000 is the checking account for the general fund, and
02-1120-000 is the checking account for the benevolence fund.

First, I thank you both for your help. I opened a second fund called Benevolence Fund. What I think you are saying is on my maintain contribution funds, I can set up the benevolence deposit to go straight into the benevolence checking acct, which will automatically credit benevolence income.

Also I did check into the contribution forum, but there were so many subjects that I checked I started to get confused.

Thank you again

Yes, exactly.

The best thing to do is use the Search function, that can usually filter out threads that are not on topic.
