Closed data needs correction

We are just getting started with PowerChurch and I've discovered one of our first big mistakes in our data entry to get things started. Apparently a contribution in Dec 2011 was entered as a credit instead of a debit to our bank account. I found it while reconciling our 1/10/2012 bank statement.

We started our fiscal year in January 2012 and have no need/desire to track the detail of the December contributions. However, I do need the checking account to balance, and accounting data has been closed through December 2011 because we said our first month is January 2012. Please tell me there is a correcting entry I can do to fix this without "restarting" our accounting.

FWIW .. this is a Funds Accounting issue, not a Contributions issue. Unless you really need to fix the balances in Contributions, I'd say you don't need to mess with it.

You'll need to create a transaction to correct your starting balance.
