Year-to-date Amts restarting for new Calendar Year

Weren't the year-to-date amounts on the checks we wrote Saturday, January 1, 2005, supposed to start the new year in payroll; therefore only be the amount of that check dated January 1, 2005? The date of the checks were 12/31/04 - (they were written on Friday) - would that have something to do with it?

It's got everything to do with it. That's exactly what has happened.
