Duplicate equity account

Post by Ron »

Some time in the past, I have created an equity account (3210) twice. I cannot delete one because both have accounts (same) closing to them. Even after eliminating the "closing to" relationships, I still have to contend with the transaction history before one 3210 account can be deleted. The "Detail Changes in Equity Report" for both 2011 and 2012, repeats the transaction list under the one 01-3210-000 heading. What approach to correcting this would you suggest?

Thank you
Ron

What I do is change the number of the unwanted account to something like 3999-990 just to get it out of the way. Then, you can use 3210-000 again.

Thanks John, but...all my transactions went with the 3999 account.
Let me better explain what I have. I'm in the Maintain COA window working with the 01-3210 account. Below, in the "This account is used in the following funds:" box, I have two entries. Both are 01 GENERAL FUNDs. Does this shed more light on the problem? Thanks again. Ron

I'm not sure that is possible. Are you saying that you have two funds numbered "01"?

If so, go to Fund Accounting / Setup / Maintain List of Accounting Funds

The first fund should be 01. If you hit the NEXT button, is the second one numbered 01?

If so, then you may need a PowerChurch person to help straighten it out.

Make a backup under the utilities menu and then reindex, also under utilities. Write down any error messages you receive. It is possible to get a duplicate account in the program that will double the activity. If you get a duplicate account warning on the reindex, you might need to call in and get tech support to fix this issue.

I did as you requested, and did indeed receive a duplicate account warning. I f I don't here from you within a day or two, I will assume you want me to call tech support.

Thanks to both of you, John and Zaina, for your help.

You will need to contact support. We will need to walk you through the process to remove the duplicates, it is more difficult that we can give directions on the forum to do.
