Hi there,

I'm posting this on behalf of the bookkeeper at the church. We are going to be undergoing a government audit this coming week, so we're getting everything ready for them. However, we've run into an interesting glitch.

We switched to PowerChurch 8 starting January 1, 2002. Before that we were running PowerChurch 7.

Our church fiscal (budget) year is August 1 - July 31. We are trying to restore PC7 data for the period August 1 - December 31, 2001 using PC8, but it is giving the error that "the backup contains files from PowerChurch version 7 and is not compatible with this version of PowerChurch."

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, as the auditors come on Monday morning. You can contact Connie, the bookkeeper, directly at cbuzikievich@watpen.org or 519-884-0530 if you have an answer. Thanks in advance.

Blessings,

Graham Faulkner

you can install multiple copies of PowerChurch of the same computer. They just have to be in seperate directories. Do not install another version or copy into the same directory because PowerChurch looks for data only inside its own directory, anything outside of that it doesn't know about.

We maintain copies back to the past three years. At the end of our fiscal year, we copy the entire powerchurch directory contents and rename the directory to that year, i.e. pc80-2003. I then restrict access to the folder so that its contents can not be changed inadvertantly. I create an icon for the finance pastor so that she can access a previous year's version/data. We also burn a copy to CD for long term record's storage.

Make sense?
