I just entered some checks in the the Accounts Payable module. I Went to print the Open unposted items report and wanted to sort by reference. The report will not sort by reference (Check number). Can you please tell me if I'm doing anything wrong? I am using version 11.5

I just tested mine, and it sorted ok.

When you ask it to sort by Reference, can you tell what it is sorting by?

It's sorting by due date. But I selected Reference.

I would suggest Reindexing and try again.

Utilities / Reindex

I reindex and it said "orphaned closing account detected"
. Don't know what that means. I ran the selected post report in accounts and it don't sort by ref. either after reindexing.

I saw another post about orphaned closing account detected. So I will look through my chart of accounts and make sure they are closing to an equity account.

Okay I fixed the Orphaned Closing acct. I then went to see if the indexing would work but it did not.
I went to Selected Paid Items report to sort by reference but it will not work. It is not sorted by vender or reference. Anymore Suggestions?

I think I know what happened. When I put the check number (I do manual checks) I must have spaced over once and that caused it to put them first and it looked like it was not sorting. At least I understand indexing now!
