Release from Restrictions

I've set up two donor restrictions. Is there anyway to print an income statement without the "RELEASE FROM RESTRICTIONS" showing up. It adds a layer of complexity that I'd rather not have to explain to the congregation. It also takes up a significant portion of our income statement so there's a lot more visual clutter.

I understand how the donor restrictions work and how double sided accounting is necessary in this case--if we're going to credit the DONOR RESTRICTED accounts on the balance sheet, we need a corresponding debit to RELEASE FROM RESTRICTIONS on the income statement. But for presentation or financial statement purposes, we could do without it.

Can you comment on this or provide a way to suppress the printing of the RELEASE FROM RESTRICTIONS on the income statement?

Thanks,
Greg

From an accounting standpoint, the release from restrictions would have to be there. The Income and Expense statement should only show accounts that were active during the time period. So if no money was used for that restriction it should be not be shown on the report.

Depending on your account setup, you might be able to hide some of the complexity. The way to do this would be to use the account levels. If you do not have any level 6 accounts, you could move the detail release accounts to level 6. Then when you produce the income & expense statement, you could report through level 5. The level 6 account balance will roll up into their group accounts.
