Hello everyone,
I just fould what I think is a bug in PC+v9. Please don't fix it I call it an enhancement. I know that this happens in the accounting module, but I haven't tried it in other modules.
When you select a LOCATE function (screen) or do a F2 you know of course that you get a listing of what you are searching for and if you mouse click on the title such as account number, description, etc the list is sorted. But I found that once you have sorted any list if you were to enter the first letter of what you are looking for your cursor will jump to the first item (letter) alphabetically in the list close to what you have just entered, say if you had clicked on the description heading or account name!!
This is real handy say if you had a long list of accounts or names.

I've been using this feature to get quickly by a couple keystrokes to whatever item I want in a sorted list under Locate screens for quite awhile, and figured it was purposely programmed to work that way, like the same type of thing happens if you are in Explorer and can get quickly to a file by typing the first few characters of the filename. Maybe someone in program development can confirm if this is a bug, or normal operation. I think I was using this in version 8.5 also.
Sure is ... this has been added to all the lists. Its something we've been asking for, for a long time. It does make it alot easier to find names when all you have is a first name, and an address.lincolnda wrote:Found this on page 32 of the V9 Manual, under description of Locate function, that this is a programmed feature.lincolnda wrote:figured it was purposely programmed to work that way

That's actually a feature, not a bug. It does that entirely by design. In older versions of PowerChurch, you could do the same thing, but only with the first column. Usually, that was last name or something like that, so it was still pretty useful. Now, in v9, you can sort on any of the columns and use the keystroke thing to move quickly through that sorted list.
A lot of work went into producing that bug!
