Our church uses approximately 50 different funds to track contributions. I appreciate that the fund number used in the Contribution module should be the same as that used in the Fund Accounting module (doesn't haver to be, I know, but would make it easier to understand). However, our system was initially set up by two individuals (one that set up Fund Accounting; one that set up Contributions) and the fund numbers used in the Contribution module are different than that used in Fund Accounting. I want to correct that so that if I post to Fund 1 in Contributions it will correspond to accounts in Fund 1 in Fund Accounting.
In Fund Accounting, if I want to set up a new account number, I can transfer the data from the old account to the new account and not lose any data; I can run prior period reports and run comparisons to current periods witht he proper matching. I don't see such a function in the Contributions module. If I change Fund 23 from the building fund to the Sunday School Fund, it seems that prior contributions to the building fund will now appear as though they had been contributed to the Sunday School fund.
Any thoughts as to how I can change the funds in contributions and preserve the contribution history?

Re: Transfer of Funds Data in Contributions Module
FWIW ... changing numbers in Contributions is somewhat different than in Fund Accounting. As you mentioned, the numbers do not have to correspond to each other, as long as they close to the correct funds.dsnilsson wrote:Our church uses approximately 50 different funds to track contributions. However, 50 accounting funds ... whew !!!
There is no easy way to do this, in fact, the procedure to do this is virtually the same procedure to change envelope numbers if (and when) you may have to reissue all the envelope numbers due to transfers, deaths, etc.
It is VERY tedious, and time consuming. Have I mentioned, it is NOT necessary to have the same fund numbers in Contributions as in Funds Accounting.
In fact, in my last church, we had 3 separate F.A. funds, but 30 contribution funds, 28 funds closed to the general fund one.
I'm assuming that the fund numbers are all numbers under 100!!
1. Take the time to create a spread sheet that will show four columns:
A: Name of Contribution Fund
B: Current Number
C: Final Number
D: Current number plus 100. (temp number)
2. Change the fund number to the current number + 100. (IE: current 23, temp 123) Move all the numbers to these temporary numbers.
What you're doing is moving the funds out of the way so that you can reset them within the range you want to have. You have to use the reassign contribution fund number functionality, NOT the maintain contribution fund function.
3. After all the numbers have been changed to the temp number, start at the top and then change each Fund to the final number you want to have.

Hmmm?
I'm willing to be tedious
On the other hand, I don't think I understand what you are suggesting. I don't have a reassign contribution fund feature in the contribution portion of PowerChurch (v. 10).
How do I change the fund number in the Contribution module and bring the history with it? I don't want to change the fund numbers in Fund Accounting - I want to marry the contribution fund numbers to those in Fund accoutning. The data appears to be hard wired to a particular fund so if I originally contributed money to Fund 23, it will forever be in Fund 23. I don't see how I can change Fund 23 to Fund 123 (in the contribution module) and keep the data. I can ceate a new Fund 123 for the future but there is no history attached to it.

Reassign Contribution Fund Number
My Version 10 shows that I can Reassign an Envelope Number but not a Fund Number. I don't seem to have that ability. Reassigning a Fund Number would be easy.
How can I get that ability?

Re: Reassign Contribution Fund Number
I suspect that your version of Powerchurch has not had any Maintenance Releases added.dsnilsson wrote:My Version 10 shows that I can Reassign an Envelope Number but not a Fund Number. I don't seem to have that ability. Reassigning a Fund Number would be easy.

This functionality was added in a maintenance release back in 2007.
You'll need to have your network admin, or whoever maintains the computers for your church install this update, which is available from this page here:
http://www.powerchurch.com/mr/
All Maintenance Releases are cumulative, so all you need is download the latest version 10 MR, and you'll be up to date.
