While I was on vacation, somebody tried to do my job and made some errors while entering the contributions of some funds. How can I delete these errors if it has already been posted?
When this has happened to me the way I fixed it was to post a negative contribution to the incorrect fund and envelope and then a postive contribution to the correct fund and envelope. The net effect on the envelope in entering the contribution is 0. I also check the unposted contributions again to make sure a second mistake is not made and then proceed with the posting process.
Randy is right. When you enter the correction, make sure you use the same date, envelope, fund, and full amount (negative) as the original contribution. That way, it won't show on the statement and will be transparent to the recipient of the statement.
