Restoring Data

Post by mpkadz »

Is it possible to restore from a Power Church Backup, data for a single individuals contributions? I have recently discovered that our secretary has just deleted several former members. I was hoping to be able to restore just those members data and finish out the year, then reassign them to an "Inactive" status with an envelope number in the "Inactive" range.

Unfortunately, no. The best way to take care of this is to load a separate copy of Powerchurch on another machine, then restore a full backup to that installation.

What we've done in the past was install to a different directory than what is the default.

Usually the default is C:\Powerchurch\PCPLUS11, so what we've done is install it to C:\PCTemp\PCPLUS11. When you start the program for the first time, do NOT choose the option to upgrade, but allow it to create a new installation. It will ask you for your Serial Number to copy it from your permanent installation of PCPlus. It will then create the blank database tables, and populate some of them with sample data, then it will close (I believe).

Then restart the temp installation, do a restore of your data, then print off the statements for those members at the end of the year and include them with the statements covering December so they have a full statement for their taxes.

Just an aside, members should not be deleted from the database for at least three years, as their contribution data must be retained for that long per IRS rules. What you should do is mark them removed from rolls or deceased if applicable. You can do this using Mailing List Profile and Personal Profile codes.

Then I'd also remove any delete permissions from anyone who should not be deleting members information.

Hope this helps.

Neil,

Thank you. I have some time over the Christmas break from work that I will be able to try this. I will let you know how it goes.
