Contribution posting error
I processed the contributions for 1/9/2011 on MOnday 1/10/2011. They were all entered with the 1/10/2011 date. When I posted I had one contribution for the 12/31/2010 that I hadn't posted yet. I posted that single contribution to December 2010 and then I posted the entries for 1/10/2011 and I changed the month but not the year. I can't find where it is. I checked the journal for Dec 2010, Jan 2010, and jan 2011 and it doesn't show in any of them. When I check View Posted Contributions all the items I processed are there but nothing shows in the Check register or Journal. Help

Yes I did NeilZ. Can I just use the dlete the old data function and delete the contributions for that day. Will that remove everything from the system. It Won't take long to reenter it.
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Contribution posting error
have you checked Posted Transactions in Fund Accounting to see whether the transaction is there? Could it have posted in Dec 2011?

OK .. before you delete anything, lets go over what you said, and see if I understand it properly:MarkAndrew wrote:Yes I did NeilZ. 1. You entered contributions for 1/10/2011.
2. You went to post contributions in the Contributions module and there was a set of contributions from December 2010 that were not yet posted to Contributions.
3. You proceeded to post the Contributions from December to Funds Accounting by changing the Month, but not the year.
I agree with Sheila. I'd check in Funds Accounting for a few things:
1. Unposted Transactions dated December 2011
2. Any Posted Transactions dated Dec 2011.
FWIW ... when you post Contributions in Contributions, this does not necessarily mean that the data will correspond to what you sent to Funds Accounting. Contributions is a separate area of the database that really does not interface with Funds Accounting directly. It works much like the Payroll and Accounts Payable modules, if you Post in Contributions with the Funds Accounting option, all it does is create transactions in Fund Accounting that go in the Unposted Transactions queue.
If you did not post any Unposted Transactions in the Accounting module, then the transaction may still be there. If you did, then I would definitely enter the View Posted Transactions function of Accounting, sort the list by clicking on the Date column header, and look at the bottom of that list.

Re: Contribution posting error
Neil,
I posted in both Contributions and fund accounting. I will try what you said. I didn't check Dec 2011 because I know I didn't change the year. I haven't closed December yet. The year is still 2010. I will check Dec 2011 anyways. If it does turn out to be there, how do I fix it.

Re: Contribution posting error
I would look in Posted Transactions in the Fund Accounting module, narrowing my search down by searching for CO for contribution entries over Jan 2010 to Dec 2011. It might take a bit to scroll through them, but that is where I would look. It seems that either the data didn't post in Fund Accounting (can you see them in the modify transactions option?) or it posted in an unlikely area of the register/journal. Since the date is in question, I would look for the contribution entries only, or what the entry would have been named (i.e jan 10 dep), hoping to see something pop up in the list.

Thanks Sheila,
I'll try that.

I'll try that.

Re: Contribution posting error
The default reference used by the Contributions module when it creates Funds Accounting transactions is Contrib so you can sort by the date, then look for that in the Ref/Check no column.

Re: Contribution posting error
You can sort the transactions in the Accounting - Fund Accounting - View Posted Transactions screen by "Date Posted" column to find the most recently posted according to the computers date of the post. The Date Posted column is almost to the end when you scroll the Transaction List columns using the bottom scrollbar.

I didn't know that! How cool! I'll try that next time! I knew my suggestion was the long way around.

Didn't I say that in a previous post in this thread

Neil,Sheila,
This is what I found out. The transaction is sitting in the unposted transactions. It didn't post in Fund Accounting. Now what do I do to fix it.
Thanks for all your help,
Mark

Re: Contribution posting error
Since its in the Unposted Funds Account transaction queue, you can edit the date and place it in the correct year and month.MarkAndrew wrote:Neil,Sheila,

Then, if you're the bookeeper/treasurer, you can post it to Funds Accounting. If not, I'd just tell the bookeeper/treasurer about the error and they can fix it.
