Hi there:
I am trying to get the first name of a deceased spouse off the tax statement. I suceeded in changing the name fields in the database and that works for labels, etc. Only on the tax statement the first name of the deceased person continues to show. - How can I change that?
Thanks for any help you can give!

Re: Name on tax receipts does not change
Nope, it was a real question BUT as soon as I posted it my mind was free enough to find the answer myself!
But in case others have the same issue, here is the solution:
For a deceased person's name no longer to be used for tax statements, you have to delete their envelope number (i.e. change it to zero).
I guess you can die but that doesn't mean you're dead to the taxman yet...
Thanks, and good luck!

FWIW ... the name should appear for the first tax statement after the person dies, as this is needed for the estate's income tax filings.magist wrote:Nope, it was a real question BUT as soon as I posted it my mind was free enough to find the answer myself!

Yes, thanks for the tip and that's what we were doing. Had printed the statements and now I wanted to change the records for next year. - I appreciate your help!

Totally understand, also remember that when the surviving spouse passes, you must keep that data for the IRS for at least four years under their name.
