I have a question regarding on how to handle a contribution check that a regular donor has written on a checking account that is not their personal account, but rather a business account that they manage which is tied to a National Organization. I contacted the donor just to verify that they had written the check intentionally and had not grabbed the wrong checkbook when issuing the check. This situation was out of the norm for their contribution pattern. They informed me that the check was intentionally written on this account and it was to be applied to their annual giving. Now, I am uncertain how I should handle that situation. Should I apply it to their envelope# or create another profile in the name of this organization and add an envelope number to it?
If I create a profile for an organization, POWERchurch doesn't really have a good way to do that. I have run into that in the past when a local church makes a donation. I set up a profile similar to Last Name: Church First Name: Methodist, etc. Should I handle this situation in a similar manner?
Is there a rule of thumb that I can apply to similar situations in the future?

I suspect none of us here can give you a direct answer on this. I would get some advice from the church's legal or financial adviser.
On the "rule of thumb", you may want to make it a church policy that the name on the check is the name that will be credited with the donation.
