4.2.1 Authentication message sending email

Post by tborgal »

I just emailed my 1st quarter statements and apparently only half of them went out. In the report I got the following:
Successfully sent to server, then a list of about half of the emails which should have been sent.
Below that list i got - 4.2.1 Authentication from "email address" are declined at this time, then a list of the other half of the email addresses.
Any ideas why these emails were not sent. The email address listed in the message after word from was not even the address being used to send them out on. I did have a five minute delay after the first 50, but if the listing being displayed as the emails are sent was correct some of the emails sent in the first fifty showed up in the declined list and some of the emails sent in the second batch went fine.

Using V11.1 with the latest update. Have not had this problem before with the same setup - I think.

That is the response that PowerChurch Plus got from your outgoing mail server. The message indicates that maybe you were over a sending limit. You might want to inquire with the e-mail provider as to why e-mails from your address were being declined at that time. Most likely, there is a sending limit that they have in place. It may be new since the last time you sent out a large mailing.

I sent them thru Verizon. I sent my year end statements in January using the same ISP with no issues. I need to look at the list to see if there is any pattern to it. There were a total of 77 statements sent, 41 were successful and 36 were not. I sent 50 then had a 5 minute delay then the rest were sent.

Check is the unsuccessful ones were going to the same ISPs (AOL is a real pain with this at times). Some ISPs will flag an IP address as SPAM if too many emails come through at one time.

I believe I have come up with a pattern. I looks like the first 21 were sent then 29 were skipped, which oddly enough adds to 50. Then the next 20 were sent and the last 7 were skipped. It looks like there may be a limit of 20 that the IPS has set. Why the first set sent 21 is interesting though.

A lot of times, "internal" e-mails will go through (like e-mails to people with @verizon.net addresses in your case) even though the settings are wrong or you are over the sending limit.

Mail servers seem to treat authentication and limiting issues differently for e-mails on the same mail domain.

In version 11 we added the ability to tweak the delay between connects and sending emails. PowerChurch connects to the server sends X emails (waiting Y miliseconds between each) disconnects and waits Z milliseconds before repeating the process.

You can adjust these settings by going to File > Preferences > System Setup Options > E-mail (tab) at the bottom right corner you will see a button labeled "...".

For Verizon we have seen good results using the following:
Connect Pause: 1500
Per Connect: 5
Send Pause: 750

Try these settings and see if that makes a difference.

I have actually decided to change my outgoing ISP to the churches server, which does not have as low a limit on how many can be sent at one time. Our secretary is using them with no issues to date when she sends out the weekly prayer sheets. I will see how it works when I send out the next statements. I have not tried to send those that did not go the first time. I am not sure how to accomplish that without sending them all again.
