Emailing Contribution Statements

Post by Taustinxx1 »

Hdwe/Sftware guy at church says the email feature has been set up in PC+, when trying to send a contribution report via email we get an error report with the message "Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed rcpthosts."

Tried changing the email address for that member with same result. Is this a PC+ generated error message? If so, how do we correct the problem?

Thanks

First off, are you using the Mass Email function of Powerchurch and is this happening with only one member's report or with many.

The way I'm reading it however, is that you are trying to send ONE report via email. When you do this you are NOT using the Powerchurch email functionality, but using MS Outlook or Outlook Express. The error is from your ISP saying that it doesn't recognize your email domain as one it can accept outgoing email from.

Let us know exactly which action you are doing: mass email, or single report, and we on the forum can give you more info.

Using PC+ since 1999.

The message is being returned from the SMTP server, PowerChurch is printing this on the report after you attempt to send the report.

If the Hardware/Software person has set up an internal Exchange server you are using, it isn't allowing relaying from internal SMTP clients. We don't have specific instructions on how to configure an Exchange server for this. We have been told if it is not set correctly, it could open the server up as a relay to the internet.

If the SMTP server is hosted offsite, the user name used to connect to the server could be invalid.

There are a couple other configurations possible that could cause a similar message, those two are the most common.

Good question. From the Contributions -> Contribution Reports menu I have chosen "All Contribution Statements" as well as "Individual Contribution Statement." In both cases, nothing gets emailed and PC+ generates a "Contributions e-mail sent status" report showing the "Sorry, that domain isn't in my list of allowed reports" message followed by a list of all contributors or the single contributor requested.

My guess is that PC+ treats this as a series of single email requests although it doesn't give any indication that it is using either Outlook or Outlook express.

That process does not use a local email client.
There is a problem with the configuration, either in PowerChurch or the SMTP server.

Do you use a regular email program, like Outlook, that is working? And are the settings the same in both programs? You don't have to be using Outlook for PC+ to work...simply that the settings required for a program like Outlook also works for PowerChurch.

When you look this message up in a Google search you get several reasons this could happen and you may need to contact your email service to find out exactly why you are getting this message because it is coming from them telling you they won't relay the email or emails outside of their system. For example, using Exchange that may not recognize PowerChurch as a legitimate program for email to be generated from.

It could be something as simple as you aren't authenticating the email correctly, you are sending from an IP address outside of your providers list of acceptable IP addresses, the address after the @ symbol isn't on your providers white list, and other reasons. This is why you would need to call them and find out the reasons.
