contribution posted to wrong designation
I put a contribution to 'cash' because I didn't have anyone to attach the funds to...and then I posted to FA... then later the person called and said they forgot to put their name on their contribution envelope. How can I correct this entry?

Which version are you using?

I'm assuming that the money goes to the same income account in Funds Accounting, so here's what I would do.songbird331 wrote:11.5
1. Reverse the existing entry in Posted Contributions for Loose Cash, then add a new entry minus the amount given. (I'm assuming that you collect all the loose cash, even those in envelopes but without a name, and enter it as one amount}
2. Add an entry for the contributor using the amount given.
Post these three Contributions to Contributions ONLY, as there's no need to change anything in Funds Accounting.

Not sure of where to begin...do I do Reverse in FA or in Contributions? I've not had to do this before. I see the entry in posted Transactions but not sure if I Reverse the whole thing.
Yes, I collect all Loose Offering (even without a name) and it is entered as Cash.
Just not sure of how to get this started. I apologize.

Everything is handled in Contributions.
At the top of the screen, go to Contributions, then to View Posted Contributions. Locate the envelope number. Find the incorrect entry. After highlighting it, click the reverse at the bottom. This will create a negative entry and place it in the unposted contributions. Do not modify that reverse. You can then reenter the contribution correctly in the Enter Contributions screen. Then post both entries.
If you post to Fund Accounting, then it will take care of putting the money into the correct income account. If everything is fine in Fund Accounting, you can choose to post to contributions only.

Zaina basically listed what you should do. There is no need to do anything manual in Funds Accounting.songbird331 wrote:Not sure of where to begin...do I do Reverse in FA or in Contributions? I'm assuming by 'Posted Transactions' you mean Funds Accounting. My advice was predicated on the fact that the money was assigned to the correct income account in Funds Accounting and there was no need to post the Contribution change to Funds Accounting to correct anything there. Even if this premise is true, if you do the reversal, add the correct contribution entries, then post to Funds Accounting, the system will create the proper transactions, and when you post those it will update the correct Income account in Funds Accounting so that everything will be correct.
