Reassigning ALL envelope nrs

Reassigning ALL envelope nrs
A goodly quantity of our contributors don't use their envelopes and throw them away (wasteful of natural resources and the church's financial resources). I want to reassign the numbers so that only those who will be using envelopes will be getting them so that when I order new ones for 2005 I won't need to order as many. Of course, when I try to reassign a number to one that's already in use I can't do it. It sort of ends up being like a dog chasing its tail. Where to start? Can I someway erase all the envelope numbers and start from scratch? Recommendations please.

To start from scratch you would have to go to Contributions and delete old data. Once you have deleted old data you can go back to Membership and Personal profiles and remove the envelope number from everyone and reassign as you please. Make a backup before doing this method.
The other option would be, if for example all of your current envelope numbers were 100-500. You would need to reassign all of those to a higher number range not currently in use like 1000-1500. That would free up the lower number range and then you could reassign 1000-1500 back to where you want and remove the ones you don't want.
I would recommend a backup before either method.
