entering pledges for new year

I need info on entering pledges for new year version 11.1. The manual instructions differ from what I see on the screen...it says go to Contributions, choose pledges then maintain pledges. My contribution menu does not have a "pledge" option...just maintain pledges. So I assume I select the contributor and for the period start date 01/01/2014 to 12/31/2014. So now that I am late entering these...it is now February, will it still account for the January contribution on pledge reports? There was an issue for 2013 with it being a month off (only on the pledge summary). Sorry for the lengthy question...thanks for any help!

In the gray menu bar across the top of the screen (where it shows File, Edit, Membership, Accounting, etc.) click on Contributions, then in the menu below you will see Pledges, which pops out another menu with Maintain Pledges, Search for contributions..., and Year end pledge processing.
